It was a fun media-filled ride today for the VeloViet cycling club. Vicky Nguyen, a local television reporter, showed up with a camera man to interview and film the VeloViets in action.

A quick bio of Vicky. She is a CSUF graduate with a BA in Radio, Television, and Film, and is a TV host for Saigon TV and a news reporter for Garden Grove's TV3. For this feature, Vicky is doing a television piece for a show on Saigon TV. Also making a "rare" appearance was Cap't "Zeus" Thomas. Thomas has been very busy with different events in the local Vietnamese community, but took time to come out and visit us. All were excited to see Thomas on the bike again.

Also visiting were some cycling friends from San Jose, XeDapViet's Dzung and Margaret, who rode with our VeloViet's Endurance Crew in a double century (yup that's 200 miles folks!). A lot of action today!

After a quick interview with Cap't Scott and the VeloViet Ladies, we quickly transformed Reporter Vicky into a cyclist and outfitted her with a road bike. Vicky definitely looks good in a VeloViet cycling jersey! A few more photos and we are off!

Saigon TV Blog Recap

It was a fun Diva ReUnion Ride today for the VeloViet cycling club. The Ladies dusted off their bikes, and joined the VeloViet Men for a roll to Crystal Cove.  There were more photos taken, lots of goofing off, and much laughter than actual miles ridden!

Afterwards we had lunch with Banh Xeo at Quan Mii.  Great food, great friends, and great times!  If you are friends on our VeloVietOCteam Facebook, you can view more photos there.  Also check out the video recap at the link below!

2016 VeloViet Diva ReUnion Ride

Within a lifetime, there are those few dates that have special meaning to us: our birthday, the day our children was born, or the day that our love ones passed away. It is the actions and events on these dates that defined who we are, that shaped the person that we have become, as they solidifies our past and present, and present to us a possible future.

September 11th was one of those dates for me. I changed on that day. No longer do I look at the world the same way. I am not the boy that I used to be, but now a man, stronger but deeply scarred of knowledge.

And on that very day, out of the ashes and chaos, rose others who also developed exceptional strength, those that overcame mighty hurdles and became heroes to other. They are the ones who sacrificed all, who stood on the edge of deep darkness, and still able to see the light through the dark cloudy murk.

The upcoming Sunday of September 11th again will have a special meaning to the VeloViets. It is on this weekend for the past years that the VeloViets celebrated this special day. We called it a ride of remembrance, a "We Remember" ride, and each one of us has a reason to ride, and a story to tell.

And yes... there were memorable stories on the ride from past year too... of heroes, of sacrifice, of weakness, and of strength. There was the amazing story of Ironman, who courageously carried the flag throughout the ride, and of his VeloViet teammates who would not let him give up, who took turns pushing him through the windy coast.

And on this year, there will be new synchronization with new teammates joining for the first time on this 120 mile ride. It is new camaraderie that will be shaped on this ride. Who will stand out from this crowd? Who will be strong and sacrifice for others? We will find out soon.
